ability to e-mail user's responses back them, of course the user has to put the e-mail as on of the questions. Also a way to put this at the end of form. "A copy of your responses will be emailed to the address you provided." MICROSOFT FORMS MUST be better than Google forms/surveys! Google forms has that option. See example.

Is there a way that we can have a response be sent automatically to the respondent without the need for them to check a box?
The response from Microsoft on this request is unclear. But right now, the responder gets an email only if distribution of the form is limited to people inside the Office 365 organization. I have very little interest in sending forms to people within my organization, but I have a lot of interest in sending questionnaires/forms to clients outside of my organization. I have to consider switching to Google Forms because Microsoft Forms has no ability (a) to send confirmatory emails to responders outside the organization, and (b) to edit the responses. Google Forms does both.
Microsoft Forms seems to have very little orientation towards business that want to send questionnaires to clients to gather information, where the information is not in the nature of a survey (how much do you like that burger). I want a form system that lets me gather information from clients, that automatically routes the data back to the client, and that allows the client later to edit their response. For responders outside of the organization, Microsoft Forms has absolutely no such caability. And my organization does not have the sophistication and resources to use Flow to circumvent those limitations.
The feature in Forms provides the option to send the user's response to the user only if the user is in the organization. We need the feature to send the responses to a user outside of the organization. We want to send questionnaires to clients and need the answers to be automatically available to the user, preferably in an email with the complaint question/answer set. And I would like to have the question/answer set emailed to me. Currently only a link is emailed to me.
This doesn't appear to work for me.
The box is ticked, but we only receive a single email when the form is filled in the first time. Subsequent filling of the form does not send a new email.
Clicking View My Responses only shows the one result.

I am asking myself why you (Microsoft) are making a voting for ideas when you need years(!) to implement the top voted ideas. That's not agile development!?

@Robelliot any chance you can share how to email the form responses? can you send it to someone that is not the author?
also form that imput email address again and check it to avoid to imput wrong mail address.

This is a must feature.
Example, you created an audit form for your employees or for a process within your company. After you did an audit, you want to send the result to a person. There should be an option to add an email address where you want the result of that particular audit to be sent to afterward.
This would serve as a receipt - the same concept when you are withdrawing money from an ATM. As an individual, you would want proof that you have been audited by a certain individual and which would show the performance item by item.
This can already be built very easily for those who have/use Flow. We use it all the time for our surveys in Forms as the Flow email allows us to add the company logo and other information into the email to the respondent together with the questions and their responses.

I too am having issues. The "send email receipt to respondents" option and checkbox is displayed but I can't check it. So close...

doesn't work - box is available to tick when form is being created, but email is not being sent to form respondents

Screenshots of the email response feature are shown in the https://aka.ms/response-confirmation-receipt form, and I can see the feature in my forms, but I'm not able to select/activate it. Can't share feedback on what I can't test.

Nice try - as in this would probably work for the majority of users. However we're 'awkward' in that we do not have the same values for our User Principle Name and Email address (ie the username that users log in with is NOT their email firstname.lastname@example.org)
It took me a couple of minutes to figure out that this was because the responses were picking up UPN rather than the 'email' or possibly even the primary SMTP address from Office 365 presence data.
Oddly it's not a total bust. The form does indeed email the form creator to tell them that new responses have been received, so it's able to decode the presence data for the form creator OK - just not respond back to the person filling in the form (I'm willing to accept that we're just awkward and that nothing could be done to re-engineer this solution to target the email address or a routable address in some way but UPN isn't going to do it for us :)
